UKASFP Response to COVID-19

The UKASFP Committee is aware that there are many initiatives being put forward, not only by members of the Association but by SF-ers all over the world in response to the COVID-19 crisis.
We believe it would be fruitful, in true solution-focused tradition, to consider what we are all doing that is working, how we are doing that and how we might do even more of it! We can do that not just as individuals but as a a community of like-minded people who can work both individually and collectively , as well as strategically and operationally.
Regardless of our situations, we all have an opportunity to use SF for the benefit of ourselves and others in the simplest possible ways; for example, by inviting people to notice their own abilities, strengths and qualities. Furthermore, as one of the few groups of people using talking interventions who, by and large, agree on what a good intervention looks like, we can be sure that, when people interact in a solution focused manner, wherever they are in the world, they are likely to be doing something similar. Perhaps ironically, this is because we have no specific technical language, and communicate with people using their own language and ideas, based in their own culture.
These strange and challenging times are an opportunity to exploit the simplicity of the SF approach, and the unity of our community, to benefit ourselves and others. By coordinating our efforts and sharing ideas we can help develop more cohesive and directed actions and responses by “leading from one step behind”. To this end, we would like to develop some kind of forum (or perhaps use an existing forum) where we can pool our ideas, benefit from each other's experiences and successes and collectively develop ideas on where to go next, as individuals and as a community.
The first steps towards doing this have already been taken: as noted above, some SF-ers have already been sharing their ideas and initiatives with each other on existing forums and through conversations with those they are already connected with (e.g. within the Committee itself) . A useful next step, we believe, would be to build on this in a more structured and organised way. We therefore invite those of you who are interested, to respond with details of any SF initiatives you are involved in, or know about, having sprung up in response to the COVIC-19 crisis. Please also let us know whether you like the idea of coming together with others in the SF community, via a virtual meeting, to share ideas and experience. Once we have sufficient interest, we will set up a forum and/or virtual meeting to progress this.
The fastest way to share your ideas with the UKASFP community is to post on-line at www.ukasfp.org, sign-up or sign in, go to My Profile (tab in the tp right hand of the screen), and enter your comments into My Feed
We look forward to hearing from you!
